exellant isolation for the price
By Mark Hubelbank
This was used between a TV and audio system that were on opposite sides of the room and significantly violated all grounding rules. Without some isolation the line noise was very bad.
Putting this isolation transformer in (and it was used backward but more on that) the line noise was completely gone. No further games had to be played with grounds.
For the technically interested. This appears to be a simple but fairly high quality 1:1 transformer. I tested it with a 1K source resistance (a 1K resistor in series with the sig generator) and it still was good to 3db down at 50 Hz with a 2V P-P signal. At the upper end it was flat to the limits of my measurement to 20 kHz. I could not detect any difference in operation between using either end as the input.
As most devices these days have a source impedance well below 1K even if they are specified for a greater than 1K load, this should have minimal effect on signal quality. Further, most applications use a signal level below 1V further staying within the capabilities of this unit.
The only note is that this is not at all shielded so it is not intended for very low level signals such as microphone level applications. The wires coming out of it to the connectors are not shielded. Only in some extremely noisy location would this be a problem. A little grounded aluminum foil in such situations would probably fix it.

Possibly limited application
By L. Lane
I purchased this product to eliminate a fairly loud ground hum on our church sound system when feeding computer audio to the sound board. The product appears to be designed more for automotive audio systems than for other uses, so I may have just not purchased the proper item. The filter does remove some of the hum we were experiencing, but not all. We have been told that we have an unbalanced ground on our building electrical system and have had to use filters at some outlets. I have tried connecting the small ground wires to the computer case, but it has no effect. All and all, it has worked well enough for our purposes. The hum is only present if the volume is quite loud and no sound is present. It was an easy, fairly inexpensive fix for us.

Works as expected
By Denogginizer
This killed a ground loop in a 99 Grand Prix.
No loss of audio quality that I could tell.
Would buy again.
