Simple form, sublime finish, thoughtful operation, satisfying performance
By M. Ferreira
I didn't use the mic on a cell phone as of yet because this headset was purchase to match with an iPod for stereo listening.

Sound quality is fine for me, with the volume capacity more than I need.

The ear piece pads do not cup and surround the ears but they sit atop the ears and I can wear them for quite a while for they are mostly comfortable. The pads do isolate the ear from outside noise but not as much as a full over the ear cupping. This is not an issue with me as I like the design of the ear pieces including the retrostyle (double wire slide) of adjusting the span ear to ear.

The edge stitching of the headband is retro too, presented in an elegant mat black finish over the entire device. That there is no real padding in the headband I wont miss since the device sits on my head with good cooperation and comfort.

The controls are interesting. The big start/stop the track control SWITCH on the circular flat of the one earpiece is a clean and convenient switch to use, nice and wide.....the on/off is minimal.....and the volume control rocker has a second function (forward/ reverse to the adjacent sound tracks) that needs the practice of the user to get understood correctly and then it's fine.

One week of travel using the new headset daily for a number of hours have not outlasted the initial battery charge. Battery power life between charges was said to be .........I THIINK........15 hours or so according to Avantree, I think.....so far my first week use was covered with no need to recharge the battery (or does it have "batteries")......

The headset is light in weight and the BLUE TOOTH range is outstanding........50 feet or more? I didn't measure this but I noted the impressive range by happenstance.

The only nitpick is when or if you switch the power off.........while still having the headset on over the ears.......there's a brief string of erratic beeps as it powers off, which seems sloppy......maybe I'm spoiled by all the clean and highly designed little signal tones of all the high tech devices that surround me in my world......perfect little tones some in an actual melody.....this is only a nitpick of no real consequence.....the erratic little string of beeps at power off if you keep the headset on....maybe the next unit off the production line hasn't any sound at power off.....who knows?

So now, how long it functions well will be the final and most revealing measurement of the product. We'll see I expect.

I love it, or rather I'm satisfied with the product. My Koss porta-pro is second string now, but only because I had come to almost despise the entanglement of the hard wire that would snag on every damn thing in my surroundings. How nice to be free from that bane.

UPDATE on Decoration Day 2013:

No problems so far and I continue to enjoy and fully recommend the product. The battery life is great in that I just charge it on the weekend and it covers all week. Not once yet did the battery go low (is there a warning? I haven't heard it).....I have two blue tooth headsets now, the blue parrot for talking on the cell and this one for good stereo sound for my iPod (I still didn't try to use the phone with this Avantree Hive headset.....on both my blue tooth headsets' one or more remote control buttons are occasionally glitchy, needing another push or tap to send the command, and of course there's the host components that have a part in the transmitting smoothness, after all it's radio frequency and that gets subject to interference.....the Hive has a weird volume control switch that advances or backtracks the audio selection you're on to the next in line...for me setting the volume at the headset erroneously triggered the next rack in line back or forward according to the volume control direction I was seeking....the switch is not a roller but a rocker....and it has a push down action that must be another switch to do something but I haven't learn that.....for me it's just weird but I'm improved using that strange multi-action switch....

The product "Hive" doesn't have a branding on the products that I can find and I did find another exact looking headset under another brand on Amazon that is surely the same production except for round button covers, but the switching looks all the same....they were $5.00 less than these "Hive".......but I'm still giving the Hive product I bought a 5 star salute.....I'm high use and if I can get two years out of them I'll be fine...so far so good, and no regrets. I'd buy these as a gift in a moment.

UPDATE on July 28, 2013:

Still, the battery gets charged on the weekend and all week trucking with all the time I need for the headset, the battery hasn't stopped. Excellent. I still haven't used the headset for the cellphone (as I've said, I have a second dedicated blue tooth headset for the cell), so I have no opinion there.....but I'm sticking with the 5 star rating for my experience with this unit. Yeah man.

Exactly what I was looking for!
By Scott_Sniper
Ok, so I will try to write a very unbiased review, seen as how almost all of the negative reviews on this seemed like people who didn't research enough. I spend two weeks looking everywhere before settling on these. I compared every set I could find between $10 and $90 and these took the cake. I have tested these with my iPhone 4S and my laptop. I have tested them around my house, the gym and riding my bicycle. I am definitely an audiophile, but it is about the music not the name on your headphones. I have tried Dr.dre $600 headphones and laughed so hard I pee'd a little. I think spending over $100 on a pair of headphones is not only pointless, but all about image. Ok so that was extremely biased. I have a variety of headphones ranging from $10-$50. And have only owned one pair of $25 Bluetooth headphones. So based on all of that these are my findings.

Pros: First thing I noticed was how light they were. Second was how comfortable they were on my big head. Although the over-ear pads fit like on-ear pads, they are surprisingly soft on the ears, even after over an hour at the gym. I ran for twenty minutes and lifted weights for forty five minutes and they stayed comfortably on my head. The padding on the ears is great, the padding on the head band is low profile, but more than adequate for comfort while having a good grip on the head. Another bonus is the ear pads can be removed to be washed, a bonus for anyone wanting to exercise in these. They do not cancel all noise, but having them near top volume in the gym blocked out the music in the gym. While riding my bike I could still faintly hear the wind with the volume cranked, but only had high speeds or when there was a head wind. The range is great, I never lost connection anywhere in my house or the gym, both of which are quite big. The control are very easy to use, keeping it very simple to use. The volume is quite loud. The complaints about noise bleeding would only cause problem if you were in a dead silent room with someone say trying to read. The notification beeps it makes are subtle enough to not irritate. Having the cord so you can use them as wired headphones is the best part about them. The fit confortable over baseball hats and large sunglasses. They feel sturdy enough to not break easily. The battery charges quick (approx. 3 hours) and last a very long time (approx. 12-18 hours). They only cost approx. $50!!!! They look very slick with a lotus flower shaped notification, yet not too bright to be distracting. The sound quality is very good for the price. I listen to Rock, Hard rock, Metal, Classic rock. The audio is a bit throaty (Mid-range is a little loud) but the treble and bass are both at satisfying levels.

Cons(Not neccesarily for me but maybe you?): They don't work with Siri on iPhones. They do not swivel. They do not charge while being used with the supplied audio cable. They aren't noise cancelling so if you plan on using them while say mowing the lawn you probably wont be happy. They only charge with the supplied USB-3.5mm cable, which is unique meaning if you lose yours you probably wont have another one laying around. Using them for calls seems decent, but everyone I have talked to says the can hear their voice echo on their end.

Things you might want to know that no one talks about: They do NOT charge while using them with the audio cord for non Bluetooth devices. They do NOT work with Siri.

Conclusion: These are exactly what I was looking for in a set of headphones, but that doesn't mean they are for everyone. If you want a great quality headphone with good audio quality, extremely long battery life and a price that seems to be half of what it should be, then look no further. If you can ignore the lack of a big name logo, less the perfect noise cancellation and a microphone that seems on par with other "headphones" in it class, they are the perfect accessory. I hope this is helpful and that I didn't leave anything out.

UPDATE: These do work with Siri for you iPhone users. I was holding the talk button like you have to do with the stock Apple headset, when all I have to do is touch and release the talk button to activate voice command. Another great feature I have grown to love is how when turning on the music the volume fades in to the volume it was last set at. So if you have the volume cranked and turn them off, the next time you hit play it will slowly go from quiet to loud. No getting your ears blasted and having a heart attack when you turn them back on.

The sound bleeds...a lot
By spark
I've been searching for a pair of BT headphones for a bit and wanted to give these a try. I wasn't expecting much with the price range, and below is my feedback:

Pros:
- Great sound, rich bass, actually surpassed my expectations for BT headphones with this price tag
- Good battery life
- Easy connection to my iPhone, iPad, and Macbook

Cons:
- Ironically the great sound is also a problem. The headphones bleed music, a lot. My girlfriend who was at least 15 feet away from me said she could hear the music as if I was next to her. I wasn't blasting it, and this is crucial since I commute via public transportation everyday and do not want to be one of those people sharing music with the rest of the commuters.
- Again, because of the sound bleed, I turned down the volume which also meant it didn't do much in the way of blocking sound. I heard everything around me.

If you are not concerned about being in public spaces too often, then these do carry great sound with ease of use. If you are a commuter like me, then I'd not recommend this. I didn't get a chance to test out the call function so I can't say anything to quality of voice calls.

I returned them because I just can't use them for my needs.
