Tried, Tested, and True

First of all, to clear up a few things that some consumers are missing. This LIFEPROOF bike mount is made for use with the LIFEPROOF case. If you don't have the case, this won't work. If you have the case and have discovered what a life saver it can be, this is necessary if you ride your bike.

This mount attaches snug to your handlebars. It comes with rubber spacers so you can adjust it to be snug to your bike. Once you have it on, it is very simple to slide the iPhone (in the case) into the mount. Once the iphone is in, flip the switch on the back and it is locked in solid. How solid? I'll tell you in a minute.

With your iphone mounted on your handlebars, you have great access to you apps both for communication and for monitoring your workout. It is so nice to be able to work Mapmyride, my music, and answer incoming calls when need be.

As for how well this holds...I was riding down the Pearl Harbor Bike Path on Oahu. This is a great path that gives me about a 25 mile workout. I was seven miles into my ride, I had worked into a good hard pace when WHAM - I hit a buckle in the asphalt that send me flying. I flew, my bike flew, my headphones flew. I landed hard and went to the ER. My bike landed hard and has plenty of scratches and missing grip tape to tell the tale. My headphones...we never found those. However, my iPhone remained locked in and attached to my handlebars. Absolutely protected and unscathed.

This mount is an essential part of my bike now. I love it!

Nothing but solid.....

Had this item on my moutain bike and had a major wreck i looked up and the bike was on top of me and all i saw was the bike mount and my IPhone still locked in!! enough said!!!

Great mount overall

I just completed a 15,000 mile trip around the US on my 2004 Harley Sportster 1200R. I bought a LifeProof case in preparation for the trip so that I wouldn't have to worry about the phone getting destroyed by the elements. It was also a big plus that they made a handlebar mount.

Over the course of the 57 days I was on the road, I did not have one issue with the mount. It held the phone perfectly and put my mind at ease.

The only complaint I have is that they somehow failed to design the bottom of the mount to allow for you to charge the phone while riding. The bottom "arms" of the mount extend over the charging slot on the phone, so there is no way to get your charger in there. Prior to my trip, I used a heated paperclip to melt away the plastic on the bottom and managed to extend the hole on the bottom enough to allow me to charge the phone while also not compromising the structural integrity of the mount.

Without the ability to charge the phone while riding, the mount would have been practically useless (since my iphone only lasts a few hours when GPS, music, etc, etc are running), which is why I am rating this 4 stars and not 5. Again, with some ingenuity this problem can be fixed by yourself, but it would be a nice thing for the LifeProof team to think about when they design the version for the iphone5.
