Great if your vehicle does not have a built in navigation unit.

I purchased this mirror mount for my Escort 9500IX. I was tired of my suction cup mount continually falling off my windshield. Initially I found the blendmount offered on the escort website, but I just could not bring myself to dish out the 90 or so bucks for it. I figured I would give this a shot and try to save some dough.

Install went fairly quickly, it is a little awkward to get everything in place and tightened down so the detector sat exactly where I wanted it but with a little persistence and 15 minutes of my time its in. It looks great, and is a nice sturdy mount. I tightened everything down tight and added a drop of wicking loc-tite to all the fasteners to prevent them from loosening. One downside to this mount compared to the blendmout is the bracket that attaches to the mirror post is bare metal with grooves cut in it to grab the post when tightened down. Since I fought with its placement a few times I noticed the the mirror post is all scratched up. Not a huge deal since you don't see it anyway, but I may go back and touch it up with some paint. I am kind of anal like that. I completed the install with a direct wire kit so it is hardwired dirctly to the fuse box making for a very clean looking install. Almost looks factory.

After several days of driving the mount is very secure. I have not experience any dropping or lowering of the detector, or any rattling that many have complained of. It came with a bracket that slid directly into my detector and locked it in firmly. I believe this bracket just starting coming with the mount in the last 6 months or so.
So all in all I am very pleased with my purchase of the mount and glad I saved some money. If you are installing this on a vehicle without a nav unit then I completely recommend it.

Now to the downside of a mirror mount when you have a navigation system. Keep in mind this problem will most likely exist with any brand mirror mount, not just the one being reviewed. I installed my mirror mount on my Infiniti G35. When I turn on the radar detector I get almost constant false laser signals. The placement of the detector under the mirror is just above and slightly behind the nav screen. After doing some research it seems the nav screens have some electrical interference that the detector picks up when it is near the screen. When my detector was installed lower on my windsheild I did not have the problem. I tried adjusting the mount to move the detector as close to the windshield as I could but it did not help. If you search "mirror mount false laser signals" you will see this is a very common problem. Some people swear that a small piece of electrical tape on the very bottom portion of the radar lens stopped false signals for them, however it did not make a difference in my application. Escort radar offers a service where if you want to pay them they will somehow desensitise the detector so it will not pick up the false laser signals from a nav unit. I feel I have given them enough of my money already. My fix so far has just been to go into the detector settings and turn off my laser detection. Not ideal but atleast I have some protection. Besides the only time I got an actual laser signal all the detector let me know is that I was getting a ticket before I even saw the police car.

I would suggest if you are considering a mirror mount installation on vehicle with a nav system would be to start up the car and place the detector under the mirror and see how your detector reacts before you purchase a mirror mount.

Works really well

I like it, simple and it works well. The detector is stable if you tighten down the screws. I am going to buy a 2nd one for the other car. Installation is self explanatory, no need to watch the video. Just clamp it on the rear view mirror, use the thumb screws to adjust the height and distance forward/back and then take off your suction cups and bolt the bracket to your mount. It takes maybe 60 seconds to mount, just take it out of the box and look at it for 2 second and you will figure it out :)

Works Great and a Resonable price.

I was growing tired of my windshield suction cup mount for my Escort Passport 9500ix falling off the windshield and general did not like the placement of the RD there. Also attaching anything like this to the windshield is illegal in California (and Minnesota), though not heavily enforced in my experience.

I saw Escort's mirror mount for $90 and liked its mounting placement but felt the price was high to say the least. Did a search here on Amazon and found the UltiMount Radar Laser Detector Rear View Mirror Mount - Escort Redline, 9500iX, 9500i, 8500i X50 for less than half the price of the Escort mount.

I installed the mount in my 2003 Honda Accord last night (took less than 5 minutes) and am very pleased with the very simple and solid install. The Radar Detector can be moved around in any direction to assure a level install of the RD. Once installed the only thing I see is the RD hanging under my rear view mirror. The Ultimount is completely hidden behind the mirror, (It was smaller than I imagined it would be when I ordered it). Under the rear-view mirror seems to be the perfect location for a Radar Detector.

I have ordered Escort 79-001059-01 Direct Wire Power Cord for Radar and Laser Detectors to tap into the power that is available inside the Map Light just above the mirror, this will make for a very clean permanent installation.

The mount is all metal, comes with a extra set of longer screws that I needed to fit the mount around the mirror base on the Accord. Well designed and solid, an excellent buy! Shipment was FAST, received the mount 3 days after placing my order.
