Good suction cup, good X-Grip, Meh Arm

I have bought several products from RAM, all of them good to great. This one is on the low-end of RAM mounts.

Suction Cup: the design of the suction cup is by far the best I've seen on the market. It's way more solid than the tom-tom and hasn't ever fallen off my windshield.

X-Grip: This is a fairly creative solution to hold a wide array of devices securely. It's not as good as a custom grip, but it works. You need to be careful in where you place the rubber fingers. It's easy to mount on top of a button. I have a series of 15 images of my windshield and the suction cup on my phone from when I mounted my phone and the grip continuously held down the camera button. If I reposition the phone, I might be holding down the volume button. I also have to watch out for the power connector. Pick your poison.

Arm: This part was a little disappointing. I was expecting the higher quality aluminum arm that came with my other RAM mounts. The arm design is what got me sold on RAM. It's two bowed pieces of metal that when screwed down in the middle compress on the ball joints on either side. This allows a continuous level of adjustments, and because the metal is fairly stiff, you can really torque it tightly.

Instead, I got a composite plastic arm; it's not as good. It still works in principle, but the strength/grip of the plastic arm is noticeable weaker than the aluminum arms. The material used is softer and doesn't hold its grip as well. when I'm riding my Harley, the vibrations can actually cause the positioning to creep, so I have to reach down periodically and readjust. In my car, I get the same issue where I have to periodically move it back up.

Best Car Mount I Have Ever Used

I purchased this item after purchasing multiple other cell phone car mounts in the 20-30 dollar range. The positive reviews for this are accurate. The mount is incredibly sturdy. The suction cup is strong and easy to use. The universal X-Grip is solidly built and holds my phone without slipping or having to awkwardly adjust the unit. Based on my experience so far, I expect this to last a long time.

Great solution for iPhone w/case

I have an iPhone 5 with a Speck SmartFlex wallet case. The grips hold my iPhone securely in place. Suction cup mount sticks to windshield just fine. Great piece of hardware.
